Kevin C. Busch, AIA, CID

Mr. Busch is the founder and owner of Busch Architects, Inc. After graduating from the University of Minnesota in 1981, he began work as an architect for a large, well-known Minneapolis firm. Mr. Busch was a participant in many corporate, commercial, and religious building projects from 1981 through 1988. In early 1988, Mr. Busch started Busch Architects.

Mr. Busch's experience includes numerous church projects and commercial structures. He also has a strong interest in recreation and athletic facilities. Projects Mr. Busch has designed include Advent Lutheran Church in Maple Grove, Minnesota; Faith Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids, Minnesota; Dunning Recreation Building in Saint Paul, Minnesota; and Cox Insurance Associates Office Building in Roseville, Minnesota.

Working with diverse, multi-opinioned groups such as a church building committee or community design task force is one of Mr. Busch's stronger skills. He is also adept at organizing complex building programs and working with complicated construction details such as you might find in remodeling or addition projects.

Mr. Busch believes that participation in recreation and sports activities helps create a healthy mind and spirit. He was a three sport letter winner at Alexander Ramsey High School in Roseville, Minnesota and lettered in baseball at the University of Minnesota. He has been a youth sports coach for the last 10 years.

Mr. Busch has been married to Felicia Busch for 18 years. They have three sons, Matthew, Ryan, and Daniel. The Busch's live in Falcon Heights, Minnesota.

Gary E. Demele, AIA, NCARB

Mr. Demele has been Vice President at Busch Architects, Inc. since 2008. He is a licensed Architect in Minnesota, Massachusetts, California and Colorado and is NCARB certified. He received his degree in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley in 1974 and a Lifetime California Community College Teaching Credential in 1978. He practiced architecture in California, Adelaide, Australia and Boston before relocating to Minnesota in 1994. From 1986 to 1994 he was an adjunct faculty member at the Boston Architectural College teaching a sustainable design studio, building technology and a thesis advisor.

His 33 years of project experience has focused on educational and religious building types. He has worked with numerous K-12 school districts, including Saint Paul Public Schools and Avalon Charter School. University work includes University of Minnesota, Twin Cities; University of California, Berkeley and University of Massachusetts, Lowell. Church work includes River of Life Church in Elk River, Minnesota; Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church and School in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota; Saint Clares Monastery in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota; Christ Lutheran Church in Lake Elmo, Minnesota and Mount Carmel Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mr. Demele also has experience working with government and municipal projects for US Army Corp of Engineers, City of Minneapolis, City of Richfield, City of Roseville, City of Medina and the City of Rogers, Minnesota.

Award winning projects include Carlson Marketing Group, Minnetonka, Mn (1997 NAIOP Design Award), “North Gate” University of California, Berkeley with Robert Olwell, FAIA (Design Competition winner and 1985 AIA San Francisco Honor Award) and Spafford Residence, Woodside, Ca (1975 Sunset Magazine Design Award).

Gary has been a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) since 1978 serving on numerous State and National Committees and as a long time member of the Interfaith Forum on Religion, Art and Architecture (IFRAA) and Education committees. For the last 14 years he has also served as a Mentor to graduate and undergraduate architecture students at the University of Minnesota.

His public service activities included serving as Vice Chair on the Minnesota State Registration Board of AELSLAGID. He currently is Region IV Director on the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) Board of Directors.

Gary is a world traveler, Zen gardener and skier. He lives in Orono, Minnesota with his wife, Maureen Steele Bellows, Architect.

Katie Leaf, Intern

Katie Leaf works as an Intern for Busch Architects, Inc. She provides drafting services and works on various other project tasks, gaining experience for architectural licensure. Ms. Leaf received a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Minnesota in 2010; her education also includes a Bachelor of Art in Studio Art from Gustavus Adolphus College. Ms. Leaf is especially interested in historic architecture, having worked as a graduate teaching assistant in architectural history for two years at the University of Minnesota. She also has been gaining experience in a variety of other project types. She enjoys outdoor activities, travel, and art, and lives in Minneapolis with her husband Greg.
